Spiral Flower Crochet Square
by Justdunny (Toni Andmarc). Please leave some kudos so I know you’ve been here.
This square is based on a motif I spotted on a gown on a TV show. I’ve used black to emphasise the original motif and the white emphasises the spiral. Finished square is 17 cm wide. With a row of dc around the outside, I believe that would make a 7” square.
In allowing access to this pattern, I grant the right to make this blanket for personal use.
It would be a joy if it was acknowledged as a Justdunny design. However I reserve all rights to text and images. Please do not copy, duplicate or distribute.
Materials:
Worked in 5 ply acrylic yarn (Carnival brand) with a 4.00 mm hook for a really soft effect. Tension is not important if using for a blanket. This one is quite soft, but could be worked in any yarn with any hook to get the desired feel. Size will vary.
All rows begin with ch or a standing st and end with a sl st to the top of the beg st. Terms used are UK so where I’ve used dc = sc US, tr = dc US, etc.
ABBREVIATIONS UK terms
Tr = treble, htr = half treble, dc = double crochet, ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, yo = yarn over, dtr = double treble, ttr = triple treble.
Special st - DEC - Yo (2 loops on hook), draw up a loop in last dc (3 loops), draw up a loop in the first dc in next ch loop (4 loops), yo, draw through 3 of the 4 loops, yo, then draw through the last 2 left on hook.
PATTERN: in UK terms
With BLACK – 12 tr in a ring, 1 ch, htr in next 2.
With PINK – join to next st, 1 ch, (dc, htr) in next, (2 tr in next) x 9.
Continue the BLACK – (htr, tr) in first pink ch, (2 tr in next, 1 tr) x 4.
Continue with PINK – (1 tr, 2 tr in next) x 9.
Continue with BLACK – (2 tr in next, 1 tr in next 2) twice, 2 tr in next.
Complete PINK – (tr, htr) in next, htr, dc, sl st in next and break off.
POINTS –continue with BLACK – I’ve worked 5 sts of the current row, then turned for each point & sl stitched back. For each of the 5 points, work 5 sts to continue pattern of 1 tr in next 2, 2 tr in next. Turn, Work 3 tr into the 3rd st, 2 ch, 3 tr into same st, sl st to last of the 5 sts. Turn, sl st back to start. Repeat until you have 5 points. Break off and join white.
Continue in WHITE – make 4 points in the same way. For the last point, work 1 tr, 1 htr next 2, 1 dc, sl st to last. Turn. Work point as before, break off.
With PINK, make frame. Join to the top of one point (I inserted the hook from back to front between the sl st and the chain beneath so there would be a complete point). Work 7 ch, sl st to top of next point. Repeat to end.
Work 11 dc into each ch loop. Break off.
Join WHITE to 6th dc on a loop, work 1 dc in next 3, 1 htr in next 2, then a DEC (yo, draw a loop in last dc, then in the first dc in next loop, draw through 3 loops, then 2.) Continue to work - 1 htr in next 2, 1 dc in next 5, 1 htr in next 2, DEC to end.
Make CORNERS – with PINK – join to 6th dc of a loop that has half black point & half white point. Work 5 dc, *htr in next, (2 tr) in next, 1 tr, 1 dtr in next 3, (dtr, ttr, 2 ch, ttr, dtr) in next to make corner, 1 dtr in next 3, 1 tr, (2 tr) in next, htr in next, 9 dc. Repeat from * to end – finishing with 4 dc.
I hope you enjoy making this.
