After reading Raffamusa’s blog entry for the arrow point granny square, I had a picture in my mind for a blanket.

This is a rough guide USING UK TERMS to making it.

Work a standard granny square for 14 rows. Over one side of the square, work a corner by making a decrease at each end of 13 rows until one shell of 3 sts remains. Turn, 3 ch, sl st to the ch sp at the other side to make a ch sp to work corner stitches into. I’ve placed this at the top left corner.

Decrease at the beginning of the row by working one turning st/turning ch only in the ch sp. I make a turning stitch by picking up a loop in the ch sp, yo, draw thru the 2 loops, 1 ch.plac
Decrease at the end of each row by working one stitch only into the last ch sp and turning for the next row.

Work over the other three sides, decreasing at the beginning and end for 28 rows.

To complete the top right corner, work back & forth over the short side decreasing each end for 13 rows and finishing with the chains to make the corner space and break off.

Work over the last two sides for 22 rows, decreasing at each end.

Work the bottom left corner in the same way as the others - 13 rows decreasing each end & finishing with making the ch sp. Break off.

Work the last larger corner for 41 rows decreasing in the same way. Break off.

I’ve worked around the blanket by making 2 htr (US HDC) in each ch sp on the sides & (2htr, 2 ch, 2 htr) into the corner sps made by the 3 ch.

NEXT: I’ve worked one BPTR (US BPDC) around each htr to make a raised ridge around the diagonal rows of the blanket. Into corners, work 2 tr into the back base of the last tr worked around the htr, 1 ch, bptr around first htr on other side, then work 2 tr into the back base of that st.

NEXT: to set up to continue in granny crochet, into corners work (3 tr, 2 ch, 3 tr). *Sk 3 trs, work 3trs into the sp between 3rd & 4th trs. Repeat from * to next corner, etc.

Continue to work in granny crochet to your desired size. I’ve added one row of tr in each tr & in corners (2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr) then finished with a row of sl st in ea st in BBL (both back loops).

Hope you enjoy!
